About this event

Tarana Burke asserts that ‘me too’ is more than just a moment in time. As the founder of this vital and growing movement, and as someone who has been organising within issues facing Black women and girls for more than three decades, Tarana’s commitment and vision is bigger than any hashtag or viral moment.

Tarana has created and led campaigns which have shone a spotlight on the harm perpetrated against communities of colour. Specifically, Tarana’s work to end sexual violence has exposed the ugly truths of sexism, has spoken truth to power, has increased access to resources and support for survivors, and has paved the way forward for an expanding and inclusive movement.

Latanya Mapp Frett is President and CEO of Global Fund for Women, one of the world’s leading foundations for gender justice. Global Fund for Women has fuelled feminist movements across the world for over 30 years, putting resources directly in the hands of courageous activists who are working to end oppressive policies and change entrenched norms.

Previously, Latanya was the Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Global, the international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, with regional and country offices in Africa and Latin America. She quadrupled the size of the program in four years to become one of the most innovative and sustainable global health organisations in the field.

For this virtual event, Tarana and Latanya will be joined in conversation with CNBC presenter, Tania Bryer, and answer questions about from the Imperial community about what it takes to create a Global Grassroots Movement and how others can spark their own chain reactions.

To register to watch the event, and to submit your own question to Tarana and Latanya, sign-up using the Eventbrite form below. You will be sent you very own access link once your registration is complete. Please include #ChainReactions2021 on any social media posts.

All of the above activities will support your progress towards the Imperial Award.
