Dr Lazorwitz is a practising OB/GYN at the University of Colorado. As a researcher, he’s led 20 clinical trials and is currently working on genome-wide association studies.

The problem

On average, a woman will try at least 3 different types of contraception throughout her life before finding the right one for her. In that time she’s likely to suffer from several common side-effects including depression, headaches, irregular bleeding, and loss of libido. Failure to identify the right contraceptive can lead to further issues, more treatment and increased costs for the healthcare system.

The solution

At Dama Health, we’re using our pharmacogenetic research to offer women and clinicians personalised contraception recommendations using a genetic test and an automated matching system  – our approach takes womens’ medical preferences, medical history and specific requirements into account and matches them up against suitable hormonal contraceptive medication types – and is the first of its kind.

Why did you apply to the Summer Accelerator Programme?

The Summer Accelerator Programme is ideally suited to our needs and ambitions for Dama Health. The Programme has already helped us have crucial discussions that have guided us and pushed us to achieve our milestones. The 1-1 mentorship aspect of the programme has also been the source of invaluable feedback, insight and support, and we’re incredibly grateful to all our mentors.

What are you looking to achieve through the Summer Accelerator?

Our primary aim is to conduct user testing during the programme. This will inform product development, further customer testing and business strategy. And because the Enterprise Lab workshops cover so many other valuable topics, we are also setting SMART goals for our team each month, such as communication plans, finances and IP strategy to accelerate our progress for further investment and funding readiness.
